Biography

I live and work in the UK. I teach a range of ICT courses and write Jaws Keystroke and Windows Keyboard Shortcut Tutorials for ECDL, CLAIT, OCR National ICT and GCSE ICT.
I qualified as a UK teacher in 1990 and have been teaching children who have a range of visual impairments since 2001. During this time I have discovered that what teaching resources are available out there are few and far between. When you do eventually manage to track them down you will find them very expensive. Hopefully this site will do something to make up for this.
Contact Me
If you are struggling with some ICT task and need to get hold of me the best way is via email. Unfortunately I dare not put my mail address up in a format where it can be accessed by Spammers and Spam bots so instead see below for a labelled image.![andy[AT]spong[DOT]uk[DOT]net](images/email.gif)
Unfortunately the Spam bots are getting more sophisticated so I am unable to label my image correctly. If you are using a screenreader to access this image, simply replace the contents of the bracketed areas with the correct symbols and you will have my email address.
My Philosophy
If I can help I will do so. There is a lot of open source software out there, projects like Open Office and Linux that will make your ICT experience more reliable and sensibly priced. If you can contribute to open source projects either financially or by helping out with programming or testing do so and change the world. I am committed to seeing Open Source Software and training become the norm in UK schools and homes.Share Resources
Do you have some resources you want to share. Have you found a more efficient way of doing things than the ways shown on my tutorials? If so let me know and I will add the resources to the site. If you want them converted to PDF and DAISY format so they can be offered for sale then you will earn a 30% commission on all sales. Contact me via email to discuss things further.Linux for the Visually Impaired
Have a look at this excellent open source project.
Vinux runs inside, beside, or in place of Windows.
Vinux is accessible from startup to shutdown and offers a wide variety of accessibility tools including 3 screen readers and a magnifier.
Vinux is Linux done right, so try it TODAY! http://vinuxproject.org/
Program with a raspberry
At long last someone has recognised that there is more to ICT than Office apps.
